Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a type of massage therapy that works on both the surface and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue (fascia) of the body. This manual therapy provides relaxation and restoration to the body as well as supporting the body in releasing physical discomfort and emotional tension.

What to expect in a Deep Tissue Massage session?

Deep Tissue Massage uses slow movements with deep guided strokes and firm pressure to relieve muscular tension and tightness. It can be a full-body session or can focus on specific areas of the body such as the back, neck, hips or legs. We also can look at the relationship different parts of the body have between each other and how best to facilitate more cohesive movement and function of the body.

My approach to Deep Tissue Massage draws on my trainings in Ayurvedic Yoga Massage Therapy, Indian Head Massage, Deep Tissue Massage and Sports Massage Therapy. I also integrate Myofascial Release Techniques which are slow, deep tissue techniques to support the body in releasing tensions that are stored in the muscle and connective tissues of the body.

What are the benefits in having a Deep Tissue Massage?

Deeper relaxation and rest in the body - Deep Tissue Massage relieves the body from physical discomfort and emotional tension that we may be experiencing. By freeing up scar tissue and adhesions, Deep Tissue Massage supports the body in its recovery from physical stress or injury, allowing the muscles and fascia to restore to optimal functioning.

Increased flexibility and range of motion - Deep Tissue Massage improves the overall flexibility of our body. Movement and stretching are incorporated into the session to improve the flexibility in our joints and relieve tension and pain in and around our joints and soft tissue. This in turn increases our range of motion by allowing our body to move more easily and comfortably.

Increased physical awareness of our body - Deep Tissue Massage helps in increasing our somatic awareness of our body. By bringing our attention to what’s happening inside, we discover ways of releasing of muscular holding patterns in the body and learn how to listen more deeply to the inner wisdom of our bodies.

Increased blood circulation - Deep Tissue Massage improves the flow of blood throughout the body. After an intense activity, the muscles and connective tissue become tight and tender and blood circulation slows down which can cause swelling, tightness or pain in the body. Deep Tissue Massage supports the body in increasing its blood circulation, allowing newly oxygenated blood to enter our vascular system.

Increases flow in the lymphatic system - Deep Tissue Massage increases both the flow and drainage of the lymphatic system. This renewed circulation, along with the improved circulation of blood, helps carry away waste products and detoxify the body.

Attaining optimal fitness - Deep Tissue Massage helps people reach their optimal level of fitness and health by increasing muscular efficiency throughout the body .
